I know this event was shot like back in August but I had to post pics anyway, sorry for the crazy lag...I'm getting back into the blogging groove so bare with me

So for the past 3 years I've been part of Koyamasan's Bisha group for the Nissei Week parade in DTLA. We carry this heavy shrine called mikoshi on our shoulders, yell at the top of our lungs the whole way, and we bounce the shrine at the same time while trying not to run over each other in our formation

It feels like slave labor, real talk.

This year I didn't get to carry the mikoshi...ah darn...but I barely took any pics either. I was a dog sitter this year walking next to mikoshi and letting Sachi do all the picture taking for me.

Hats off to you missy, you had some pretty good shots. It seems that every year the Bisha-group manages a way to sneak alky onto the public streets of LA. This year was no exception. But compared to my first time carrying the mikoshi a few tears ago, I was sober as a kite...the only time I didn't have any work to do//

Also Pekochan's first time to go to nebuta. Thanks to Okaasan and Obaachan, Peko was looking fly in his summer happi

Ah, this spot sure brings back memories....right off of Central and 2nd right next to the Honda Plaza, that's where we pop them bottles and get the ready for the painful shoulder killing routine around the whole block

The human version of Peko

Douglas from Hoobastank was there with his fam...him and the other local kids fancied Peko very much...Sachi was stoked on meeting him ...we got some decent photos of him for her brother in Japan, but the most potential candidate for best shot of him was ruined thanks to the creepy otaku-looking kid behind Douglas...

One of my favorite shots from the set, I love the sense of a radial movement in this shot

Daikokuya is one of our, and the probably the oldest, sister store. Ask anyone from LA which is the best spot in LA, they'll say Daikokuya....but I still say Shinsengumi in Rosemead and surprisingly the ramen at Shino's in Corona is pretty darn good.

Helmet Project Design Progress 10/21

Sprayed up with proper primer layers and a beautiful coat of Olive Green, the helmet is looking good. The rough texture and this shade of green give the helmet that old military look I was going for. At first the grey primer underneath slightly showing through looked nice, but after many failed attempts of painting the final designs on the helmet was tougher than I thought it was gonna be so I had to respray the helmet 3 times, thus loosing that effect I had achieved the first spray...

Another failed attempt was spraying a stencil of the famous Tombstone phrase...over spray SUCKS. The stencil didn't lay on the contours of the helmet so I got a nasty outline of the letters...

Fuck that. I got down to what I know best. Used then stencil to draw my guidelines then just straight hand painted with acrylics. The consistency kinda sucks but after a few extra dabs, patience, and a stoned steady hand I got a the technique and phrase down.

While I'm waiting on the paint to dry and everything, I'm getting the final look of the bomber pin-up girl painted in paper so my hand gets used to it.

A lot of trial and error but I'm pretty confident it'll pay off in the end....

...especially since my boy, Xavier, is gonna build me one just like his

Helmet Project Design 10/17

My Recent Progressions & All That Jazz

In the past month, I've been slowly moving towards the end of the helmet project...I've been so damn slammed at work and with the semester moving towards midterms it's been "hard" (excuses excuses) to pick up a can or a brush and get this done.

Pressed with time and and lack of it, I find myself mixing cough syrup, 3 bottles of 5-Hour Energy, Gatorade and a few generous splashes of Jameson into my coffee cup to keep the midnight oil burning

Sleep? psh, who needs sleep...after this intoxicated heart attack kills me, I'll have all the time in the world to sleep

In the works of a few other personal projects and possibly one of my sushi bar regular's custom tattoo!

Crossing fingers on business cards and a portfolio for the end of this month...

Ever since I was a kid, I've grown up always involved with sports. Being from Ohio, my parents, especially my dad has always been a die-hard Cleveland sports fan...even went to the World Series when the Indians played the Braves in '95.

I've always wanted to go to a Japanese baseball game. I've seen videos of the National High School tournament played at Koshien Stadium on YouTube. Heard stories from a grumpy Kansai dude at my work, super hardcore Tigers fan.

Tigers fans are notorious for causing a riot during games played against their rivals, the Tokyo Giants. Kinda like Lakers fans but not as violent or stupid...yeah they'll throw an occasional KFC statue into the river after winning the championship but it ain't no post-modern LA riot shit.

One time, and the only time...quite possibly her last time, Sachi's mom went to watch a Tigers game. During any Japanese baseball game, unlike the lazy drunken crowds like we have in America, the fans are very enthusiastic during the WHOLE game. They sing and chant their asses off. Even some of the players have their own signature crowd pleaser song. CRAZY.

So Sachi's mom was watching a game and was NOT participating...bad idea. So the old dude behind her whack her over the head with a inflatable plastic Tigers bat and orders her to stand up and sing with the rest of the crowd.

Imagine if she was a Giants fan sitting in the Tigers section....it would have been a thick, cold piece of steel swung at her neck

Being my first time, I thought it would be best and safest to disguise myself in Tiger uniform and avoid any conflicts with the hometown fans.

Blended right in, managed to pack a 6-pack of tall beers into my camera bag 'cause I ain't paying 7 bucks a beer in the stadium
