Hey guys I finally made it to Japan safe and sound. It's been a mad dash moving out of our apartment, packing and making the trip over here. All stress was released once we saw this beautiful sight of the infamous Mt. Fuji during sun rise on the plane flying out of Haneda. Perfect timing I must say. In between raising a new puppy, breaking the language barrier, and gaining weight from the smorgasbord of konbinis, I'll be posting as much of my experience as I can. So stay tuned!

Finals Week_Bread & Barley Photo Montage Project

_Finals Week

This past experience working with alternative photography processes has inspired me to come up with this special photo montage series I put together for the good folks at Bread & Barley. After spending all my cash on making lithographic film negatives, I compiled some of my digital negatives in photoshop and printed transparencies to make my cyanotype prints. After doing one of these on the computer, I was hooked. So here are some of my personal favorite montages that will be mounted in their hallway/gallery for you to see in person. And while you're at it, why not check the board for new brews  because rotation is heavy.

I've worked, lived, and breathed Covina for over 3 years and within that time I've slowly merged myself into the community. To outsiders, Covina is just another old town filled with antique shops not fit for the "modern" consumers taste. Much like any other old town, Covina has it's own unique heritage that's been aging for years and never dies. You'll see Covina's true colors coming down Citrus Avenue once you hit Badillo all the way down San Bernadino. It's almost like a time warp when you see all the brick buildings and the rustic facades of some of the shops and bars. Taking a cruise down this street is even more magical, the exterior lights from the theatre and bars light up the whole street. There's something nostalgic about the scenery and it hasn't been washed out by some of the newer businesses sprouting up north of the street. During October you can witness Covina's biggest event of the year, Thunderfest. The whole street is shut down and both sides of the street are filled with the rumble of hot rods, muscle cars, and a handful of bikers. 

This town has really got some character and it's a collective of both the atmosphere and the locals. Once I finally settled in this community, I recognize so many faces walking down these streets and not once has someone frowned at me or nodded a friendly gesture. This attitude is very contagious in Covina and what better way to repay someone then offer them a drink at the local gastropub. Finally, another grand addition to the Covina family and a milestone for craft beer lovers alike. It's up until now that Covina can be proud of having it's own gastropub that caters to craft beer connoisseurs and gourmet "foodies". Bread & Barley, Covina's finest, and it's here to make a point.

Hosting over 20 beers on tap, a seasonal array of gourmet burgers and sandwiches, this place boasts craftsmanship, style, variety and a friendly environment. Be sure to try their nitro infused beers! They'll be sure to keep at least two of them on tap. If you're having a hard time deciding what type of beer to get, there's always flight sets you can try up to 4 kinds of beer at a time. Of course the knowledgeable staff is always happy to give you single small samples and an explanation of each beer they serve

You can never go wrong with their flagship burger or a leaner Bison Burger.

Special Japan Release Project

Japan beware. America's all about the hops and we sure love the bitterness, but can your lager-stained palettes handle this batch of our Triple IPA? Oops! I've said too much already, but don't you worry, it's designed for any beer drinker to handle. The beer has already finished it's first dry hop stage and is now just sitting pretty while we patiently wait till we get closer to departure to figure out if we're going add EVEN more dry hops. I'll keep you guys posted on the progress and when bottles will be available.

CBNC 5 Year Anniversary Exclusives

It's been a busy end of summer throughout the beginning of fall working on projects and getting ready for my trip in December. One of the projects I've been working on is for CBNC's 5 Year Anniversary Hang Tag Show at The Brewery. T-shirts and beers designed by yours truly. I've been collaborating with Silenus's to brew and name CBNC's commemorative beer, PB&J Ale. Look out for a feature on that soon!

In the meantime, I will be working on a special limited edition Japan release project for my trip which will be wrecking palettes with pure hoppiness.

CBNC 5 Year Anniversary Group Show

Mark your calendars folks! This coming weekend the CBNC family is putting on an art show for the Brewery Art Walk. I know it's been a while since I've posted any photos but that doesn't mean I was sitting idle. I've been working on a few projects and I'm hashing out the last home stretch of school so excuse my absence. I will be posting some of the updates of the beer I made and the labels that I designed. Look out for a few more pieces coming this weekend at the CBNC Art Show! I bet you can't guess which one is mine...

Mohawk Bend@Echo Park

Earlier this week, the wifey and I decided to try and venture off into new territory and find a new gastropub. When I have a craving for meat, I don't settle for less, I got to have a bloody slab of meat. That craving put me on a mission and ended up finding a gem in Echo Park. This place used to be an old theater, a retrofitted 100-year old Vaudeville theater that is. I highly recommend getting seated in the Ramona room, the skylit back room is amazing. Here's some shots of the interiors.

Definitely one of the juiciest burgers I've had in a while. But what really had me was the beer collaboration they did with Golden Road Brewery and the commemorative glass you get to take home with you. The One Hundred and Two, Belgian Golden was smooth just like a belgian should be but you could definitely taste the malts over the hops. It was an interesting approach to brewing a Belgian and the tulip is a solid piece of glass, win-win situation.

America's Next Top Model Preview Party@Supperclub Hollywood

My summer vacation is coming to an end I can't be any more grateful to Jonathan Roberts Photography for the many opportunities he's given me to shoot more fashion. It's been a busier summer than I expected and now that I won't have as much free time to shoot events like these but hopefully this last semester's photo alternatives class will produce some interesting projects. 

To be honest I haven't watched ANTM since like the 5th cycle and at that time it was just the girls competing, but this new 2.0 cycle involves both the guys and gals to compete. I think what really triggered my eye for this show was the behind the scenes shots of the models getting ready, the production of the photo shoot, the whole process was like actually watching how the industry really operates. As you would imagine, Tyra's presence doesn't escape her even when she's not on set. Here's a few shots of the runway show.
