Built for RADness
Let's take snap back to real time here (although a few weeks late on this post) back in sunny California. The Japan posts are reinforcing my anxiety again so I'm going to break the cycle for a brief moment. Being back home has been great, I'm settled back in and I'm finally rebuilding myself from where I left off. The homecoming celebrations have toned down and I can focus on making the next moves.
It's been a while since I've been to Kearny Moto Park in San Diego, I'm in no way serious about riding competitively, but it's always a swell time with the OTSDRS family. To prove how serious I am at these events, I can recall bringing out my childhood bike the last time I was here and rode it around the track. If you dig somewhere deep in my archives from years ago (good luck with that), you'll find pictures of that "bike".
Do you remember back in the 90's when Wal-mart carried those motorcycle-looking bikes? They came with black fairings with neon green stickers or white fairings with red and blue stickers. They looked just like motorcycles and if you were clever and wanted to look cool in front of all the neighborhood kids, you would pound a can of soda and wedge that puppy on your back tire in between the frame to give your "bike" a realistic revving sound. Yep, I was breaking necks back in the day - maybe a few years ago too but it was shortly followed by smirks and laughter at what a joke it was.
Back in Ohio, it was jumping 3-foot ramps and it held strong and even up until now that bike was handling the track just fine. Everyone got a kick out of the bike at Kearny and contributed a hefty amount of "sponsorship" stickers to cover every corner of the bike. As of right now, my white steed hangs on a bike rack in my parents shed with flat tubes waiting to be revived one day.
It's always a party when my goonies from the I.E. show up especially when our buddy Leo rented out the whole track for the afternoon for us. The BMX community here at Kearny loves to see anyone and everyone strap on a helmet and take a few laps around the track. Don't got a bike? Psh, no problem, there's always someone willing to lend you their personal bikes - that's the substance that makes this community more of a family.
Later on this season, JP and Rodney are gonna be racing in Orange County real soon, stoked on seeing them in a more competitive setting. OTSDRS Factory Team represent!
Commissary's factory rider, G made an appearance as well, showed some impressive laps...
...and the father of OTSDRS Factory Team, Rhandy was out in his usual setting.
Ed and Saul came all the way out from Riverside, more I.E. love!
Did some stunt shooting with Rhandy's handy little Canon point-and-shoot which, to my surprise had a lot of interesting, new technological features. For the stunt jump, I had some fun using the slow motion camera feature which came out pretty rad! Hopefully I can get my hands on the footage...*ahem*
When he's not working on BMX or riding them, Rhandy is secretly a professional photographer. Don't be fooled by the minuscule size of the camera when attached to the tripod, the man behind the camera is a genius. Who needs viewfinders anyways, right? When you have the raw preview using the naked eye, there's no doubts with what kind of image you're going to get.
Ed's quarter-size doppelganger - start them young!
Sneak peak of the new OTSDRS long sleeves!
Happy Birthday Leo!
