Night Time Sakura@Himeji Castle 「姫路城の夜桜」

Misty Sakura Nights in Himeji

First of all, let me apologize for bombarding the blog with sakura pictures - I didn't realize how many times I went out to shoot them. But this time I was able to get some night shots at Himeji Castle because for a week during the full bloom, they light up the trees for night viewing. Each day and night during this week, there's usually live music and theatrical shows going on as well.

This particular night, it was drizzling quite a bit but that didn't stop me from getting some night shots. Surprisingly, there were more people than I expected especially since the weather wasn't ideal for viewing. As the drizzle kept pouring, I was making my rounds while enjoying the live jazz music that was going on in the courtyard while the crowds of people stood and listened under their umrellas.

From some angles and lighting, the trees look like they were covered in snow - the pink and purple lights emphasized the color of the sakura petals.

Before we caught a cold from standing in the rain for a few hours, (apologies to Okaasan and Toshi for making them withstand it) we warmed up with our newest favorite ramen shop, Mitsumasa. Thanks to Toshi, the ramen master, for turning us on to this place. We've graduated from his former workplace's heavy, kotteri tonkotsu broth to a lighter, yet just as bold and oily as Zundoya, tonkotsu broth that Mitsumasa has perfected.
