When The Saints Go Marching In
When I left my house at 6:00am the dark ominous clouds weren't letting up for any sun despite the forecasts I had been looking forward to the day before. The closer we got to Santa Anita the rain just kept pouring and I was already thinking of where to buy some Ziploc bags to DIY a camera cover for the rain. I wasn't giving up that easy especially after shooting hours in the rain at Pismo TROG, where I learned to troubleshoot in these types of situations. But all of that was irrelevant once we exited - the rain had ceased and only light grey clouds hovered over the race track parking lot giving me the biggest softbox for natural light. Right at that moment, the jazz rendition of "The Saints" by Louis Armstrong had started playing and to what started as a gloomy, pessimistic Saturday morning had been livened up by a simple gospel hymn. Here's the first part of the morning as the horseless carriages made their entrances.
