Wakkoqu Kobe Beefsteak「新神戸店」

If you take a look at my bucket list, you'll probably get the impression it's an adrenaline junkie's death wish while the other half of the list looks more like a grocery list. No one ever really checks everything off their bucket list because the list grows faster than you can check things off. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to scratch off Kobe beefsteak in Kobe off the list. When people here Kobe, they usually think of two things: #1 Kobe Bryant, #2 Kobe Beef.

When it comes to steaks, I like mine still moo-ing with a light sizzle to sop up some of the dripping blood. If it was legal to eat raw Kobe beef in Japan, believe me, I would be scoffing the raw meat right off the cutting board. The meat is THAT good, but according to our chef it's "banned" in Japan, that is if you get caught.

A few blocks away from Sannomiya station, you'll find this quaint, little restaurant with it's bright red canopy hidden away from the main street lights. Upon entering you'll notice 3 teppan set-ups on each corner of the dining room. Don't expect a lively crowd, speak easy is the game played here, excuse the sarcasm but it's like a jazz bar...without the jazz.

To start the course you're going to need to strap on your starched meat "bib" if you will. Each course comes with a small appetizer, I opted for the smoked salmon with capers instead of the cold roast beef slices.

Sitting tight while the chef tantalizes you with fresh meat while your stomach rumbles can be difficult so I highly recommend sipping on a glass of 12 Year Old Hibiki to get you settled.
