Nature's Playground
Day two on our Colorado road trip, we beat the sun to at Arches National Park where we got a spectacular sunrise as it draped over the Courthouse Towers. Words can't describe the towering feeling of the giant slates of rock when you're in actual close proximity to them. Next stop was Devil's Garden which has most of the arches with a few advanced and challenging trails to get to Dark Angel and Delicate arches which we weren't able to venture off for this trip. Those trails would take up a good chunk of time and were trying to see as much as possible in before the sun went down. Driving around the park you can cover a lot of arches but to get to the scenic views you're going to have to park and make the trek.
These rock formations at Arches are created by the sand, water, and wind elements eating away at the base of the rocks through time and slowly creating the arch from the bottom up. The weight on the top of the formations slowly lose support and slates of rock tumble down the sides and create the towering walls as seen below. This is also the reason for the orangey-red color of the sand below them which is rock that has been grinded down so fine after many years.
Our last stop leaving the park was the Garden of Eden where we let the dogs stretch their legs and enjoy the landscape. Both dogs are adventurers and can't wait to be let out into the wild so you can imagine their excitement in a new environment and terrain. From this panoramic point you can see most of the valley within the park. This is where we said our farewell from Utah as we headed to our next stop at Grand Junction, CO. Central City here we come!
