新宿のレベルス・ロカビリー
Twist, Shake, Spray, Repeat
People come to Tokyo for many reasons, Akihabara for electronics and maid cafes, Shibuya for the high end shops and boutiques, Harajuku to get your picture taken with lolita goths, and climbing to the top of Tokyo Skytree has been a recent wonder for many tourists. That's all fun but if you're a broke traveler like myself and you're looking for cheap thrills and entertainment, Yoyogi Park is the place to get your kicks in.
If there was one thing I absolutely had to see in Tokyo, it would have to be the rockabillies in Yoyogi Park on a Sunday afternoon. It was like being in the Peter, Bjorn and John music video. Grab yourself a few cold beers and takoyaki, sit back and watch the show, it's the perfect combination for this occasion.
When I first heard about these Japanese greasers years before, I was intrigued how much time they devote to keeping their hair up and how they religiously show up every Sunday afternoon to give local tourists a show in honor of "The King". This particular group, Lebels of Shinjuku, among Black Shadows and Strangers to name a few other groups, showed up about eight active dancers including a junior, rockabilly-in-training. A few Strangers showed up as well to show some support and to toss a few beers in the air. If you haven't seen the resemblance, these guys have a huge influence on my signature logo.
As much as a love the rockabilly scene in America, the Japanese rockabilly culture definitely has it's own personality that I can truly appreciate for it's own style and flair. These guys have been doing this routine for many years and their community still grows which fascinates me. If you take away the gallons of gel, hairspray, black leather jacket and jeans, got me wondering what these guys do for a living. Just like classic car enthusiasts meeting up at the In-n-Out parking lot Sunday mornings, these guys congregate to share their own passion for the subculture. These guys stand true to the testament that classics never die.

What had me surprised was that this dog was wearing my Japan team's jersey instead of a Giants jersey. I wish I had a bag of bones to give this guy, he put a move on my Tiger heart. Atta boy, Spot!

A final rally to finish off a great performance
