Morning Moonshine
There's a few indicators that remind me that the year is ending, of course the colder weather, but we live in Southern California so days may start off cold but when the afternoon comes along, it's just like any other day. But when I really start to realize, it's because of the Mooneyes X-mas Party in Irwindale. Sure Japan has their before ours and they usually have it a snazzy indoor venue, but there are many reasons why ours tops theirs...well in my opinion at least.
First reason: we don't have to be worried about the weather unless it's pouring rain, because let's face it, nothing beats Southern California weather anytime of the year.
Second reason: Being outdoors soaking up the sun and being able to rev the hell out of our cars in such a wide open space without worrying about noise complaints makes the whole experience of this culture unique and memorable. And not to mention we're at Irwindale Speedway which is home to many other motorsports such as D1, drag races, and NASCAR.
Third reason: So far we've got weather and an open outdoor venue. Now the one thing that separates and breaks us away from Japan is that we get to see these cars in action on the drag strip. Without the races it would be just like any other car show where you just stroll and drool over the aisles of cars. But this is America right? Why not billows of tire smoke in your face enough for you to cough out a lung and eardrum wrecking engines bouncing off the red line?
The gates opened at 6:00a.m. because parking lots get full by 7:30 so we got there as early as 6:30 and people were already grilling and knocking back brews for breakfast. This first segment will cover the wee hours of the morning before any real action started, a brief walk around of show cars to set the scene.
